Well Loved
My seven year old loves blankets. He is buried or snuggled in one most of the time during the winter, and fall, and spring. I have to fold them and put them away during the summer and he has even been known to dig them out just to snuggle up. I have been wanting to sew each of my kids their own special quilt and I finally finished his. 
Most clothes that are grown out of around here end up at the thrift store. T-shirts that are too worn and/or stained get cut up into cleaning rags. I’ve always felt a little bit bad about jeans though. With a torn knee or a worn cuff they can’t be donated, but I didn’t want to throw them out either. So one day it came to me, make a strip quilt out of the decent pieces. I have to say that it turned out even better than I imagined. I absolutely love this quilt, and I hope he will too. The jeans were well worn so they are so soft, not stiff at all, perfect for snuggling up in. 
I used a thrifted sheet for the back. For the inside, I used the other half of that sheet (it had a few small tears and stains) and a large piece of flannel that had been given to me (I didn’t care for the print). It ends up being a nice sturdy weight and the grand cost was $1, for the sheet. Everything else I had, which makes this quilt all the more exciting to me. I really do love taking things that are no longer used or loved and turning them into beautiful things. So here we are, a well loved denim quilt for a well loved boy.

I bet he loves it, I made one out of jeans for my son and he snuggles under it a lot which pleases me no end.

That is REALLLLLY pretty Jennifer! I love the different colors of blue. I can’t bring myself to throw away torn jeans either. Years ago I made a teddy bear from old jeans for one of my boys. Then I made a couple for me and one for my niece.
Also made some hot pads out of blue jeans. Now I want to make some placemats. I think I’ll use your strip idea.

It looks like artwork. Seriously. That would do nicely on a wall in a fancy schmancy gallery. Very nice Jennifer.
I cut up some old jeans into squares, then appliqued pink felt hearts on to some of the squares. I sewed them all together into a large square, which I then made into a large floor cushion for a teenage girl’s bedroom. (I got the large cushion cheap from a shop which was selling them as dog beds – I removed the dog-related cover, which I gave to a friend as a spare for her dog’s bed!!) Another thing you can do is to cut out squares round the back pockets, then sew them together to make a storage wallhanging.
I love this idea of reusing old denim jeans. The denim is so soft and worn, a great blanket or floor rug for a baby, nice and sturdy. The different blues look fantastic too! Thanks for sharing.

Jennifer! This quilt is amazing. Nice going. I imagine your boy will treasure it for a lifetime. It reminds me of the “quilts of Gee’s Bend.” are you familiar with them?i have a feeling you would love them, if you don’t already.
I am making one of these for my little boy for his birthday. His beloved granddaddy passed away in October and is greatly missed. I am making the blanket from jeans belonging to his grandfather, daddy, and him. Lots of love and memories to wrap around him. Thanks for the idea.
